The Brokers, Who are we?
“The Brokers” operating out of our own building at 70 Fox Street Invercargill is the centre of our Financial Advice business and is the culmination of our many years of experience in this market.
Alex de Boer
I graduated as Dux of my high school and earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and Physics from Auckland University. My career began as an Industrial Engineer with Ford Motor Company and later Alex Harvey Industries, optimizing production lines and solving staffing and throughput challenges.
My wife Wendy and I moved to Dunedin, where we raised two children and I became part-owner and CEO of a major manufacturing company producing refrigerated containers and truck bodies. At its peak, we operated five factories and received the Governor General’s Award for exporting.
A long-time real estate investor, I transitioned in the mid-1980s to designing and building upmarket, affordable homes in Dunedin. Through this, I saw a need for better financial literacy, which led Wendy and me to establish a business helping New Zealand families plan for retirement, manage their finances, and invest wisely.
In the 2000s, I developed a stud Angus and sheep farm near Owaka, which sparked my continued interest in land productivity and sustainable farming practices, particularly the link between soil health and profitability.
Today, I also own The Electric Motor Vehicle Company Ltd, promoting sustainable transport by selling EVs, e-bikes, and electric farm vehicles.
With over 30 years in financial services, I currently help clients protect their assets, including house, contents, and vehicles.

I'm Levana, I am the executive assistant to Lee. I bring a proactive approach to supporting Lee in his role as The Broker, ensuring that everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.
With a strong background in administration, I pride myself on being highly organized and having a sharp eye for detail. These skills help me manage tasks efficiently, making sure every aspect of an application is handled with care. I love working with our clients to ensure they receive the best possible service, which ultimately helps us achieve great results together.*

Lee McDonald
My Name is Lee McDonald; I have over 20 years lending experience with a range of different banks here in NZ and Australia. I am qualified as a Financial Adviser and take a lot of pride in looking after my customers.
Home lending and finance in general can often be complicated;
I take pride in simplifying this process and providing a smooth end to end service.
I also like to support people with their retirement plans by giving sound advise and helping them to work on a strategy.
My focus is all about getting the best outcome for my customers, I enjoy working with people from all walks of life and take pleasure in helping you to achieve their goals.
I was born in Wellington and live in Invercargill with my wife Levana and family where I have been residing over the past 10 years.

With over 20 years of experience spanning commercial lending in agribusiness, one-on-one coaching and mentoring, leadership roles, and entrepreneurship—including launching and managing two startups—I bring a well-rounded perspective to every client interaction. Currently, my wife and I operate a successful and growing hair salon in Queenstown, which exemplifies our commitment to growth and community. We have four adult children, and my passions and interests include traveling, boating, mountain biking and squash. My goal is to guide you through your financial journey with confidence, ensuring success today and building a solid foundation for the future.
